2 Types of Direct Marketing
There are many forms of direct marketing, but we will be using two main forms. They are…
1. Direct Response marketing and
2. Lead Generation marketing.
You have two audiences you’re looking to communicate with. 1) Birthmoms and 2) a whole bunch of people that will keep their eyes and ears open for you, helping you look for Birthmoms.
For your first audience, Birthmoms, you will use Direct Response techniques to communicate directly with them. You will attempt to communicate with Birthmoms and have them directly respond to your messages, in a non-identifying way.
But PLEASE remember, this will be a very small part of your communication plan. In fact, only about 10% (or less) of your effort will be directed toward Birthmoms.
For your second audience, you’ll use Lead Generation marketing to communicate with lots of people around the country, who will be helping you generate "leads" of Birthmoms planning adoption for their children. THIS will represent about 90% of your efforts!
Wait! Can that be right? Do I really mean that 90 PERCENT of your effort will be spent trying to communicate with people that are not even Birthmoms?
YES. Absolutely! And as this book unfolds, you will clearly see the POWER in this!
Sidebar
I will cover this in great detail later, but let me say this now. Most people are handling their Birthmom search all wrong. Well at least mostly wrong. They are focusing all (or most) of their time trying to directly reach audience #1, Birthmoms. While this may seem intuitively correct, this is a very tough audience to reach.
I want to show you how to do it right. You will learn that when you spend most of your efforts communicating with audience #2, you will greatly increase your chances of reaching audience #1.
For now, simply recognize that Birthmoms interested in making adoption plans for their children are hard to reach. But also recognize that these same Birthmoms will seek personal guidance and council from those they trust most, family, close friends, medical professionals and religious leaders.
So your search must first be focused on reaching these people (the family and friends of Birthmoms) because they are the ones who know of Birthmoms making adoption plans.
(Read the last two paragraphs again. This idea is VITAL to your success!)
