Endorsed Mail
Remember POWER Concept #4, the POWER of ENDORSEMENT?
Your letter will get in the A-pile when your letter is "endorsed" by somebody the reader knows and trusts. This person will be your Inner Circle member or someone in their Circle of Influence.
And even if your Circle member doesn’t personally know your reader, when there is a thread of connection between the reader and your Circle member, it will be sufficient to get in the A-pile. The "thread" could be a common place of worship, a soccer team, or any other relationship.
By connecting your letter to the reader by some "thread", you will establish a built-in trust between you and your reader, virtually ensuring A-pile status.
The Return Address
The Return Address is the secret. This is how you will initially present the endorsement and/or thread of connection.
Let’s face it, people sort their letters based on the return address. So you must make sure your return address transmits clearly the endorsement of the Circle member endorsing your letter.
This is simple to do. On the return address of your letters, you will reference your "thread of connection". This will make a very personal connection…and the person sorting the mail will not dare throw it away.
It won’t look like junk mail…because it isn’t junk mail! The reader will open it and read it!
Here are two Return Address examples: In these examples, a printed Return Address label with YOUR name and address is used.
(Remember...these letters are not going to Birthmoms, so using your return address labels is OK.)
Example 1:
|
Sue and John Smith 333 Main Street AnyCity, State 99999 |
Hi, this is Joan Martin from Yoga class. Sue and John are good friends of mine.
As you see, directly below the address label, your Inner Circle member will write a hand-written note to make the connection.
In Example 1, the letter is written TO friends in Joan Martin’s Yoga class that she knows personally. So Joan herself is endorsing the letter.
What Joan is saying is, "These people, Sue and John Smith, are friends of mine, Joan Martin, and I’m in your Yoga class."
Example 2:
|
Sue and John Smith 333 Main Street AnyCity, State 99999 |
Hi, this is Joan (and Frank) Martin from St. Marks Church. Sue and John are good friends of ours.
In Example 2, the note is hand-written to members of St. Marks Church (Joan and Frank Martin’s church). But Joan and Frank may not know every person at church personally. In this case, the church itself becomes the thread of connection.
Optional Method
An option to writing a note below the return address label is to jot a short note in the lower left corner of the envelope. Either way, a personal, hand-written note from the Inner Circle member will clearly endorse your letter with the recipient that you don’t know personally.
So, I ask you this question: If you received a letter with this kind of return address, would you dare throw it away unopened?
Absolutely not! "After all," you would say to yourself, "it might be something important!"
This type of return address will ensure that the person sorting the mail will clearly perceive your thread of connection…and they WILL open your letter. But more importantly, they will read your letter with a heightened sense of interest.
What more could you ask for?
Final Note of Importance
During your Inner Circle Work Party (explained in detail in the next step), your Circle Members will ONLY need to endorse the first two letters with hand-written notes.
After your first two letters are sent, received and read, your audience will now begin to recognize your return address without the need for a hand-written endorsement.
