I’m going to spend more time on this one. This is very important!!! This marketing "thing", a free recorded message, works remarkably well with Birthmoms. Here is why. A Birthmom wanting to learn more about you can read your flyer, and can look at pictures on your website, but will get excited if given the chance to listen to the "real you". But until she knows more about you, she won’t want to talk directly to you. It would be too risky! So she will be
Think about it. Anyone, anywhere can find a phone, and a Free Recorded Message offers the Birthmom a safe way to listen and learn about you. She can even bail out if she wants to.With a recorded phone message, she knows she won’t need to talk to a live person. For this reason, the Birthmom herself will be more likely and willing to call. She knows the recorded message is safe and anonymous.She may even call several times over the course of a few days just to hear your voices over and over again. At the end of the recorded message, she will be offered the chance to leave a name and number (of either herself or a support person like her Doctor or Faith leader). The message will explain that your Contact Partner (named in your voice message as your "Adoption Counselor") will call to offer additional information about you. Also on the recorded message, you will give your web address (if you have one) and the email address of your Contact Partner as other ways to learn about you. Warmth of your Voice A free recorded message goes way beyond a website or printed flyer by bringing "life" to your message. With your recorded message, the Birthmom gains a real sense of who you are. She hears each of your friendly voices; she senses your personality, your education, your ethnic or regional accent, your compassion, and your deep passion to be parents. Of course, as you record your message, BE YOURSELF! Do not try to be happier than normal, more educated than you really are…"hipper" than the teenage kid down the street. If you use some fake, perky voice, the Birthmom will see right through it immediately. Be up-beat, but BE YOURSELF. Share your story; share your desires; share your aching need to be parents. WARNING! If the phone number you share on your flyer is not a recorded message, you can be nearly guaranteed that the Birthmom herself will NOT call. Instead, she will get someone else to call since she will be too afraid of talking to a "live" person. Even though she is interested in learning more, she may "chicken out" and not respond if she feels there is a risk of talking to a real person…or worse…if she feels she may need to make some kind of commitment. So remember…the important part is not the fact that the call is free. Just a toll-free number is not the same and is not enough. Even a free call still presents a risk to the Birthmom that she might have to talk with a live person. It is the word "recorded" that will entice a Birthmom, herself, to call.
