Tool #2 – 8 1⁄2"x11" Color Flyers
Usually in a tri-fold design, this document will use the text from your one-page version of your Bio, along with color pictures to present a "feeling" about you. It will also include the words, "Free Recorded Message", your toll-free phone number and your website if you have one. You will be passing these out, mailing these out, and emailing them out to your contact lists.
TIPS:
Content: Most of the content for this Flyer will come from your 1-Page Bio. In addition, you should add two to four small pictures of your family "in action" around your home. Also, be sure to include non-identifying captions with each photo. Your family may include just your immediate family or your extended family (grandparents, etc). Be sure to include pets if you have them.
Look and Feel: This flyer can be either a "flat" 8 1⁄2 x 11 page (both sides), where the pictures and text are laid out nicely on the page OR it can be designed in a tri-fold format. The tri-fold format is easier to mail in a standard business envelope.
Pictures: You will either need a digital camera, or you will need to have your pictures "scanned" into a computer. As above, if you don’t know how to do this, you can have a friend volunteer their time and equipment. Another great way to get your photos made into digital files is at your local Walgreens or Walmart. They can develop 35mm film to a CD ROM for an extra $2.00 to $3.00.
Delivery Format: Be sure to have this flyer BOTH printed on paper, and saved as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file. If you do not own Adobe Acrobat, go to Adobe.com and create your PDF files online.
Of course, your printed flyer will be mailed using conventional mail. Your PDF flyer will be emailed to your contacts as an attachment. Also, the PDF file could be made available for download from your website. (See my book, "J2A - Online Techniques" for very specific online ideas and methods.)
No Computer?: If you don't have a computer, try to find someone to volunteer their help with this. You could place an announcement in a church bulletin or ask a "creative" person at work if they would be willing to volunteer their time to help with your adoption search.
You can also pay someone to do it. It is a very simple project, so it should cost no more than $50 - $100 dollars (and you can probably find someone to do it for much less.)
