Part 4: Final Touches: Sprinkling the Benefits

Finally, with your benefit statements well crafted and edited, you must "sprinkle" these statements throughout your Family Bio. This will make your family bio much more warm and wonderful.

First, pick your favorite features that you think a Birthmom would appreciate the most. This will really bring your Family Bio to "life" and make it rich and meaningful. It will add that important element: telling the Birthmom how and why you will be wonderful parents to her child.

Biography "Versions"

Now, with your Full Bio complete (and speaking specifically now of your Family Bio), its time to "cut it to shreds!!!" That’s because different situations will require different "versions" of your Bio. Let me review the different versions.

Full Bio: This bio will be the uncut version of both of your personal biographies and your uncut family bio. This document will start with the family bio (2-4 pages describing your life together as a family) and will be followed by the wife’s full 2–3 page bio, and then the husband’s 2–3 page bio. These individual bios describe your lives before you were together. For singles, adjust this accordingly.

The main purpose of the Full Bio is to be sent to Birthmoms who inquire to learn more about you. This will be the primary contents of the "Information Packet" your Contact Partner will send a Birthmom.

Also, this will be the information that you include on your web page, should you choose to create one. (See my book, "J2A – Online Techniques" for successful ways to take your search to the Internet.)

1-Page Bio: Next, you need to edit down your full family bio to create a 1-page bio that will be the text used in your 8 1⁄2 x 11 tri-fold flyer (see below). Because your 8 1⁄2 x 11 tri-fold flyer will be double-sided and will have pictures, captions and contact information, there will only be enough room for about one page of text.

2-Paragraph Bio: Editing down even further, this bio is your "Interest Builder". Each of these two paragraphs should be about four to five sentences long.

Each sentence in each of these two paragraphs should be written as a "headline". List only top-level "benefits" (presented like "headlines") and include very little detail. Each line in each paragraph should spark a different subject of interest in the reader (the Birthmom).

These two paragraphs will be "squeezed" onto the back of your Business Card Flyer and will appear on both your 4x6 Cards and your Pull Tab pages.
