Part 1: Write your Personal, Non-Identifying Biographies
An important part of teaching a Birthmom about you is to share your life’s stories. These are your personal, non-identifying biographies, or "bios". Your bios give the Birthmom some information about you as prospective adopting parents. She will find basic descriptions of your personalities, traits and lifestyles.
This is the beginning of her active participation in making an Adoption Plan for her child, with YOU as the adopting parents.
Each of you should draft a short (2-3 page) Personal Biography about you and your upbringing. Here is a simple outline for this.
Personal Biography Outline
Birthplace (geographical region) and decade born.
Childhood memories and relationship with your parents as a child.
High school/College memories.
Adult memories, experiences by decade: your 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, etc.
Okay. Stop here and start writing your personal historical biographies. Let it take a few days. Start it. Stop. Let your ideas float around in your head for several hours, or days. Then go back to your document and edit what you wrote and add new ideas. Very soon, your ideas will shape up very nicely.
Now move on to Step 2.
